Today we decide to go to the Scottish Parliament buildings in Edinburgh. We only found out by chance that you can go in and take a look around for FREE!

When I got to the entrance, I was confronted with airport type security only to realise (much to my horror!) that I STILL HAD my pen knife in my pocket! Luckily I remembered and headed back to the car to dump it – I could have been ARRESTED!

After a good look around the amazing building we then headed in to the centre of Edinburgh to Waterstones book shop so that Thomas could spend his birthday gift cards.

After a long but fun day we headed home and realised that we had a parcel waiting for us – a very fun and exciting parcel – A brand new monster truck remote control car!

We hope you enjoyed watching!

RCA Records – Johnny Russell – Rednecks, White Socks And Blue Ribbon Beer 1973
“Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer” is a song written by Bob McDill and Wayland Holyfield, and recorded by American country music artist Johnny Russell. It was released in July 1973 as the first single from his album Rednecks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer. The song peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, making it his only top-ten. It also reached number 1 on the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada, thus becoming his only number 1.
The song is performed from the perspective of a patron of a neighborhood tavern. Although he notes the cigarette smoke hanging in the air (a dated reference to a time when most taverns allowed smoking), and describes several customers – patrons who either make an unwanted pass at a female bartender, a cowboy who “cusses the pinball machine,” a drunken customer who has become boisterous and another customer who phones his wife to tell her he’ll soon be leaving for home – he also refers to the good times and camaraderie of friends at the establishment (“The four-thirty crowd is about to arrive/The sun’s goin’ down, and we’ll all soon be here”).
A reference is also made to “There Stands the Glass,” a No. 1 country hit by Webb Pierce, which is noted as playing on the jukebox.
John Bright “Johnny” Russell (January 23, 1940 – July 3, 2001) was an American country singer, songwriter, and comedian best known for his song “Act Naturally”, which was made famous by Buck Owens, who recorded it in 1963, and The Beatles in 1965. His songs have been recorded by Burl Ives, Jim Reeves, Jerry Garcia, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt.
He is also known for being the first one to record He Stopped Loving Her Today, in some surveys named as the greatest country song of all time and the biggest hit for George Jones in 1980, but his label refused to release it.
There’s no place that I’d rather be than right here
With my rednecks, white socks and blue ribbon beer

The bar-maid is mad ’cause some guy made a pass
The juke box is playin’, there stands the glass
And the cigarette smoke kinda hangs in the air
Rednecks, white socks and blue ribbon beer

A cowboy is cursin’ the pinball machine
A drunk at the bar is gettin’ noisy and mean
And some guy on the phone says, “I’ll be home soon, dear”
Rednecks, white socks and blue ribbon beer

No, we don’t fit in with that white collar crowd
We’re a little too rowdy and a little too loud
There’s no place that I’d rather be than right here
With my rednecks, white socks and blue ribbon beer

The semis are passing on the highway outside
The four thirty crowd is about to arrive
The sun’s goin’ down and we’ll all soon be here
Rednecks, white socks and blue ribbon beer

No, we don’t fit in with that white collar crowd
We’re a little too rowdy and a little too loud
There’s no place that I’d rather be than right here
With my rednecks, white socks and blue ribbon beer

There’s no place that I’d rather be than right here

Aussie hero Daniel McConnell recounts how he helped police catch a vandal in nothing but his jocks. Transcription Below:

Ohhh well it’s really quite funny I was, I was in bed sleepin’ at ahhh 2’o’clock this mornin’ me wife comes in and says: “Ohhh the shops been, ahhhh, someone ran into the shop!” And I said “Oooahhhh what!?”
So aahhh I jumped outta bed and all I had was me undies on and I’ve walked out the front and I seen ahhh the car smashed and I seen the bloke walkin’ back to the car! And so I’ve walked outside and I said “Oahhh whatayadoin’ mate!? Like, ya can’t be leavin’ the scene,” and he goes “Don’t be a hero mate,” and I said “I’m not tryna be a hero, but the police are commin’,” and he just decided he’d scoot up the road and I just said “Naahh it’s not goin’ on like that mate.”
So I jumped in me car and I started chasing him up the road and then he went down a side street and then the police were commin’ and I flashed them and sent them off in the direction of him, but MATE, all I had was me jocks on and I was chasin’ him up the street and I’m just like “MATE, LIKE!”

Reporter: Cuz, cuz you told me this is your mates shop and you didn’t want him to get away?

“Yeah, nah, nah. It’s it’s well it’s me mates mums had this shop for like forty odd years, and ahh, look at it. Look at it!

It’s a mess isn’t it?

Beyond a mess! Oohh well like, words can’t explain how it is mate, like.

Now Daniel you’ve managed to put some pants on in the meantime.

Yeah mate hahah.

That’s good to hear. Do you feel like a hero?

Ohhh, well not really it’s just somethin’ you gotta do for the community mate. It’s like you look after your mates and your mates’ll always look after you.
